The popularity of turmeric is off the charts right now—and we’re here to say that it’s completely warranted.

The benefits of Curcuma longa (that’s the Latin name for Turmeric) are countless—literally. Everyday it seems there’s a new form of ailment that this golden root takes the edge off of, and there’s no end in sight.

Curcumin

Curcuma longa is named for the active constituent, curcumin. This small molecule is what gives turmeric its golden color and many of its wonderful healing benefits.

It’s very anti-inflammatory, so much so that it may protect against the progression of certain cancers when taken internally on a regular basis.

It’s also a high-level antioxidant and stimulating to the entire circulatory system—it helps clear the liver, clean the blood, and move it through your body quickly, partially by thinning the blood to help it move swiftly through the arteries.

Turmeric is shown to be safe in large doses, though there are a few safety precautions depending on your health, and very yummy.

3—Joint pain. This is another heavy-hitter for turmeric, joint pain, especially arthritis, is often caused by cyclic inflammation from digestive issues coupled with poor circulation. Turmeric has the power to help jumpstart a healthy pain-free lifestyle!

4—Antioxidant. Curcumin is actually, in essence, an antioxidant. This little buddy floats around combating oxidative stress from the inside out.

5—Regulates menses. A bit less-known but very important to mention, turmeric helps regulate blood flow, and for the ladies, this is an important one. It helps keep cycles regular and flowing - but not too heavy.

Like just about everything on our beautiful planet, there is such a thing as too much turmeric. If you have active ulcers, an overactive liver or gallbladder, or you’re having a surgery soon, you should talk to a professional before taking it.

Don’t actively seek and take this root if you’re taking anticoagulant medications as it can double the effects and thin your blood a bit too much.

Try to avoid high doses when pregnant because it helps create balance in the hormonal body, along with being stimulating to the blood (note: you don’t need to avoid it in food or as an ingredient, just shy away from over indulging or consistently taking an extract).
